THE SOAPS

You can follow these recipes or alter them a little to make your own soap recipes.

You can make your own soap recipes starting with any or all of these recipes that I used at my little soap store. Some of the scents you will find will smell different that the ones I used – probably. For instance, we tried to order an Egyptian Musk from a scent manufacturer – she had about 20 by that name. Also, different soap suppliers will carry different scents, although they have the same name.

When shopping for scents…

and you have to mail order them, you could test scents by buying one ounce sizes of everything. Not exactly cost efficient, but better than having a liter or 16 oz. of scent sitting on the shelf. Some suppliers offer samples, like on a Popsicle stick, for free, or even if you offered to pay 25 cents each. Again, this is really more important to get testers or samples for the fragrance oils, because those will vary a lot! Some were terrible smelling! Whereas, essential oils are basically the same scent – or should be.

Also consider that the scent strengths are going to vary, meaning that when I had my store, we noticed that the strength of the scent decreased although the price stayed the same. Therefore, you may have to increase your amount of scent.

When you make your own soap recipes, you get the fun of picking any name you want for your soap.  I tried to be unique without being vague, which doesn’t always work anyways, lol. This page shows all the soaps at once, or you can click on the soap name to go to that specific recipe, with more details. (in process/pending…)

So here goes, and all of these are created for any one of the basic recipes on the basic soap making recipe page, or approximately 90 ounces of soap base:

  • (EO = essential oil – which is natural, FO = fragrance oil – which is synthetic)
  • (T = tablespoon, tsp = teaspoon)

the Anti-Garlic soap, aka Kitchen Bar, with mocha scent and ground coffee beans

Amarna (ancient Egyptian city), aka Egyptian Musk and Sandalwood, aka Oasis Sands:

  • 3 T Egyptian Musk FO
  • 2 T Sandalwood FO
  • for coloring, 2 tsp cocoa powder for a base color, mix in 1 cup of soap base first
  • for a swirl, 1 1/4 tsp cocoa powder, mix in 1 cup of soap base first.

Anise, aka Licorice, aka, Sambuca:

  • 3.2 T of Anise EO
  • 1/2 tsp deep blue or purple liquid color, or 1/4 tsp of each.

Anti-Garlic, aka Kitchen Bar, aka For the Barby/BBQ:

  • 3 1/3 T ground coffee
  • 3 1/2 T mocha latte FO
  • (if the ground coffee has not been used for coffee, is will tint the bar a medium brown color, if already used coffee grounds are added, the tint will be more of a tan, note that in this recipe we used previously dripped coffee grounds which means that it has already absorbed water and expanded, therefore less actual grounds are added.)

Blackberry-Orange: (the 2nd biggest seller in the store)

  • 3 1/2 T Blackberry FO
  • 1 1/2 T Orange EO
  • 1 T 5-Fold Orange EO
  • 1/4 tsp orange colorant in 1 cup of base for a swirl
  • 1/4 tsp of dark blue colorant in 1 cup of base for a swirl

Green Apple soap bar, pretty but not one of the best sellers.

Blueberry:

  • 5 oz Blueberry FO
  • 1/2 deep blue liquid color, first in 1 cup of base, then for a swirl

Bumbleberry:

  • 3 T to 4 T of various essential oils and fragrance oils
  • 1/2 tsp of a liquid color that would be suitable for the scent combo, in 1 cup of soap base, then swirled in.

Coconut, aka Tropical Beach:

  • 1 T of toasted coconut FO
  • 3 T coconut FO
  • (toasted coconut smelled way better than the regular coconut, so you could use all toasted coconut or a mix, the just regular coconut wasn’t a best seller)

Confetti, with a citrus scent:

  • this one involves adding leftover pieces of soap, either from trimming the tops and sides, or from the end pieces all diced up, so consider the color of the pieces and the scent you will be using, and if you want the base to stay uncolored or not
  • also consider that if you were to add 10 ounces of soap trimmings/pieces and your soap already comes to the top of your mold, you’ll need either a larger mold or take out about 10 ounces of soap base. If you decide on taking out soap base, this is a good time to use that small amount as a test batch for a new recipe
  • 1 1/2 T Grapefruit FO or EO and/or Lime EO
  • 1/2 T Mango-Papaya FO
  • 1 1/2 T Orange EO
  • 1/2 T Lemongrass EO
  • I usually added the bits to the soap base while still in the pot and stir gently, so that you don’t get any air bubbles trapped by the trimmings, the bubbles won’t wreck your soap but may look less than perfect

Deja vu, aka Hippie, aka Woodstock, aka The 1960’s:

  • 3 1/2 T Nag Champa FO
  • untinted it will be a tan color, or use 1/4 tsp each of 2 different liquid colors to make swirls, put each color in 1 cup of base first

Earth, aka Terra Firma, aka Back to Earth:

  • Again, this is a confetti type of bar, but using more earthy type scents such as Sandalwood FO, Juniper EO, Eucalyptus EO, etc.
  • I used more natural colored bits and trimmings, such as tan, green, brown
  • and remove some soap base if the added bits and trimmings may overflow your soap mold
  • 4 T of various scents

Entomophobia (fear of insects), aka Bug Off:

  • 1/2 T Eucalyptus EO
  • 1 T Citronella EO
  • 1 T Lemongrass EO
  • 1/2 T Tea Tree EO
  • 1/4 tsp yellow iron oxide (or similar colorant)- if you want color, mix in 1 cup of base first

Orange Spice, aka Christmas Spice – big Xmas seller!

Flower Power:

  • this was another recipe to use up scraps of end pieces and trimmings
  • remove approximately 3.5 oz of soap base
  • add about 3.5 oz of soap pieces
  • add 3 T of assorted or singular flower fragrances
  • use your imagination for coloring the base, or leave it white

Frankincense and Myrrh (and Gold at Xmas time):

  • 1 T of Frankincense and Myrrh FO
  • 1/2 tsp of cocoa powder for the base color (mixed in 1 cup of base first)
  • for Xmas, this was absolutely the best seller!  After your bars are made and cured and ready for labeling, get some gold glitter, gold mica actually – its more fine than glitter, sprinkle a puddle on a plate, and carefully dip the visible side of your soap bar into the mica. Use your finger to rub the mica in carefully and to remove the excess. Label per usual.

Glow in the Dark:

  • you can scent this anyway you like, consider that it would probably be for children, mine was:
  • 2 T coconut FO
  • 1 1/2 T Lime-Cilantro FO
  • 1/4 tsp hydrated green oxide powder for color, mix in 1 cup of base first
  • 1 T of phosphorescent powder, mixed into 1 1/2 cups of soap base
  • here’s the tricky part: I decided that I wanted a visible ‘core’ of glow in the dark so it was seen well. So you have to allow your soap base to get a little thicker than usual. Consider that you will want to pour this glow in the dark cylinder of soap base into the soap mold, with having the glow soap base NOT sink to the bottom, nor sit on top (although that would be okay too). Then when you cut the slab into bars, there’s the glowing center. But when you get to make your own soap recipes, you can put the glowing soap base anywhere.

Jasmine:

  • 2 1/2 T Jasmine FO
  • 1/4 tsp of red color mixed in one cup of base first for a swirl
  • 1/4 tsp yellow color in another cup of base first for a swirl

Jazzberry:

  • 2 1/2 T Blackberry FO
  • 3 1/2 T Jasmine FO
  • 1/4 tsp of ultramarine violet mixed in 1 cup of base for a swirl
  • 1/4 tsp of black iron oxide in another cup of base for a swirl

Lavender:

  • 3 T Lavender EO
  • 1/2 tsp deep blue liquid color (for the base color, mix in 1 cup of base first, and which turned purple)
  • you can add dried lavender petals, about 1/2 cup, these will burn a little, but somehow still look really pretty.

Lemongrass:

  • 3 T Lemongrass EO
  • 1 tsp Litsea Cubeba EO – optional
  • 1/2 tsp of liquid yellow color mixed in 1 cup of base first

Life’s A Beach: (yes, one of the bestsellers, lol)

  • 5 T Life’s A Beach FO (see scent blend page)
  • 1/2 tsp of orange color in 1 cup of base for a swirl
  • 1/2 tsp of yellow color in 1 cup of base for a swirl
  • 1/2 tsp light blue for base color mixed in 1 cup first

Lilac:

  • 3 T of Lilac FO
  • 1/2 tsp purple color with…
  • 1/2 tsp black color, mixed together in 1 cup of base, then added to base for a dusty purple color.

Lime Cilantro:

  • 3 T of Lime-cilantro FO
  • 1/4 tsp hydrated green oxide, plus 1/4 tsp of chromium green oxide, for the base color, mixed in 1 cup of base first
  • 1/2 tsp hydrated green oxide, in 1 cup of base, for a swirl

Mint:

  • 1 1/2 T Spearmint EO
  • 1 1/2 T Peppermint EO
  • 1/4 tsp hydrated green oxide, for base color, mixed in 1 cup of base first

Oatmeal Orange:

  • 3 T Orange EO
  • 3 T 5-fold Orange EO
  • 3/4 cup of chopped oatmeal, mix this in couple cups of base first, it’s easier than chasing the oatmeal clumps around the pot
  • 1 1/4 tsp of orange color for base, mixed in 1 cup of base first.

Orange Spice, aka Christmas Spice at Christmas time – and the 2nd biggest seller at Xmas:

  • 1 1/2 T Orange EO

Pumice and Orange Scrub Bar:

  • 5 oz pumice sand
  • 8 oz pumice, which is finer than the sand
  • 1 1/2 T Orange EO
  • 2 T of 5-Fold Orange EO
  • 1/2 tsp of Litsea Cubeba EO – optional
  • 1/4 tsp Lemon EO
  • 1 tsp Orange colorant
  • Mix the sands in 2 – 3 cups of soap base first to get thoroughly mixed, then add to rest of base.

Raspberry, Wild:

  • 4 1/2 T of Sunripened Raspberry FO
  • 1 1/2 tsp of red colorant for a swirl, in 1 cup of base first

Redneck, aka Cowboy, a beer soap:

  • you will need very flat, no more carbonation or bubbles, beer, opened a couple days before needing
  • in your recipe, Sandalwood is a good choice, remove say 4 – 6 ounces of water and replace that with the same amount of flat beer
  • be very careful, I did this many times and all was good, but once the lye-water started to volcano over the top of the lye-water jug, I think this was because I did not let the beer get flat enough, only one day of sitting open – so take precautions! add a little at a time
  • then your home will smell like a brewery for a couple of days, lol
  • the finished soap bar will have just a trace of the beer scent
  • this type of bar is known to seize from the beer, try to make this soap at a higher temperature, like 110 degrees.
