dark chocolate soap recipe

My dark chocolate soap recipe was scented and named Chocolate Chai. The scent of cinnamon and cloves, with the visible chocolate, make this a pretty and nice smelling bar of soap. The tricky part here is the chocolate part. It is my opinion that a very visible drizzle or layer of chocolate is what sells the soap. A blended swirl, or just the scent of chocolate, isn’t enough to make it a gotta-have-it type of bar.

Dark Chocolate soap recipe, with Chai spices:

  • 51.2 oz Olive oil a Canola/ Olive Oil  blend (more base recipes here):
    6.2 oz Coconut oil
    6.2 oz Palm oil
    23.4 oz water *
    8.6 oz lye crystals
(for a total 95.6 oz of soap base)
  • scent:
  • 2 T orange essential oil – if wanted an orange spice scent
  • 1 1/4 tsp cinnamon essential oil
  • 1/4 tsp clove bud essential oil
  • colorant:
  • your choice, maybe a natural/tan color
  • OR add a little orange if going orange spice scent
  • the chocolate:
  • there are a couple ways to do this:
  • add 1 oz of dark bakers chocolate to a cup of soap base to melt
  • add as a layer on top or in the center or add right into the base as a colorant
  • OR 2 T of cocoa powder, mixed into 1 cup of base till fully mixed – no powder bubbles
  • then again, add as layer or into the base

I used to make mine as an orange tinted orange spice bar then drizzle chocolaty-soap base to the top. Note that chocolate will stain things like towels and even shower stalls, where the soap bar sits.

Here are some simple and/or creative options:

This bar below states made ‘with organic cocoa’, which means that they mixed cocoa powder into the soap base to create a uniform color.  It’s a nice milk-chocolate light-brown color:

Feel like getting a little more complicated, but not too much, lol. This beautiful bar is actually a chocolate rose scent. but you can use the same style for your dark chocolate soap recipe. First the (probable) cocoa powder added to the base, then a previously removed portion of soap base to be tinted pink for the rose scent. The pink poured onto the main brown base, and little bit of a swirl effect, the rose petals added to the top. It’s a very, very pretty bar:

This looks more like a drink with the layers representing the scents. Bottom layer for the chocolate, the foamy-like whipped topping and a cinnamon stick to represent the chai scents. To create this effect, you’d pour your brown base, tinted with cocoa powder for the bottom. To get the thicker soap base for the top, you’d keep stirring the soap in the pot till is got that thick, and spoon it carefully onto the brown base. Then embed the cinnamon stick, I’d go with a 1 1/2 inch stick:

Here is the Orange Spice/Christmas Spice soap recipe, that is basically the recipe for the above soaps.
