Lime soap with cilantro was one of favorites at the store, like in the top 10 – 15 section. The special-ness of this particular scent was the refreshing scent of the citrus plus the earthy crisp scent of the cilantro. Together this created a lime soap bar that was popular with men. There are some aftershaves and deodorants for men that have a very similar scent. Because of the masculine scent we used this fragrance in a shaving soap, yet because of the awakening scent, it was also popular with women as well.

Color comes in to play with this type of citrus-y lime soap bar. I would have a green bar (for the lime) with a darker green line through it to represent the cilantro. Color is everything in marketing and scent verification.
Lime soap, with cilantro, the perfect scent for a men’s or woman’s shaving bar:
- Basic #2 recipe: (other base recipes here)
51.2 oz Olive/Canola blended oils
6.2 oz Coconut oil
6.2 oz Palm oil
23.4 oz water
8.6 oz lye crystals - for this scented bar, add:
3 T + 1 tsp lime cilantro fragrance oil - colorant:
1/4 tsp of hydrated green oxide plus
1/4 tsp of chromium green oxide, for the base color
for the swirl, 1/2 tsp hydrated green oxide - Remember to mix colors in one cup of base, mix well, and add back in
- For the swirl, mix in one cup of base first, then drizzle and stir gently back into the soap
- for a shaving bar:
- add 3 tablespoons of bentonite clay, first mix very well in one cup of base then mix back into the soap base. Do this before adding the color
- to make a Coconut, Lime and Cilantro scented bar:
- replace half of the lime-cilantro scent with a coconut fragrance oil.
Below is a Coconut, Lime and Cilantro bar, the layering makes for a very pretty bar. Each layer representing the 3 scents:
Another great way to show the Lime and Cilantro scents! A lime green tinted top and bottom layers, plus a very lightly tinted green layer with dried cilantro herbs added:
Or you could go very green, like the bar below. From white to dark green layers, poured then carefully swirled as to not mix up too much, leaving the layers to show nicely:
If citrus bars are your favorite, check out this Lemongrass soap bar recipe, which is really made with a lemon scented herb.
