We would make lime soap because the scent was so refreshing, but by itself it wasn’t a huge seller. Again, this will all depend on your preference and customer base. The big thing to remember about this scent is to not use the fragrance oil – unless you want a lesson in seizing, lol. A lot of fragrance oils contain alcohol, and it is the alcohol that will turn your soap into an oatmeal texture in 15 seconds. My first lime soap, made with a fragrance, did this. Yet the essential oil, of course, worked perfectly.

make lime soap recipe
- Basic #2 recipe: (you can select a different base here)
51.2 oz Olive oil or an Olive/Canola blend
6.2 oz coconut oil
6.2 oz Palm oil
23.4 oz water
8.6 oz lye crystals
for this scented bar, add:
4 T of lime essential oil - for colorant:
- 1 tsp of hydrated green oxide
Some of the other scents that go well with this lime essential oil are:
- sandalwood (I just smelled this combo in an Axe deodorant, lol)
- basil
- coconut
- lemon
- cedar
- tea tree
- and my other top secret topical bar that I called Mambo #5
Here is a beautiful bar, created with 2 tones of green for the bottom layer, then a layer of un-tinted base, with slices of lime green tinted shavings:
This bar is alternating layers of untinted base and lime green tinted soap. The base is quite thick, meaning it has cooled down a lot when making this, and this helps create these peaks. On top are shavings of both colors and a mint leaf:
Here is the link to the Mambo #5 recipe, which we had also called Cuba Libre – like the drink! PENDING
Limes are a citrus, and like other citrus fruits, the juice has it’s own set of health benefits, more on that here.
