In a Rose soap recipe, you’ll be using either Rose Geranium essential oil, or Rose Petal fragrance oil. If buying soap, there is no way you will find an all natural rose soap for under $20.00. Real and truly natural rose essential oil is very expensive.
Rose soap recipe:
- Basic #1 recipe:
51.2 oz Olive/Canola blended oils
6.2 oz Coconut oil
6.2 oz Palm oil
23.4 oz water
8.6 oz lye crystals - for this scented bar, add:
- 3 T of rose petal fragrance oil OR rose geranium essential oil
- colorant:
- 1.5 – 1 tsp of liquid pink color, and use pink and not red – just not the same.
- other:
- 3-4 T of dried rose petals for sprinkling on top.
In the beginning of my soap store days, I made my rose soap like the one pictured below. A nice and pretty solid color.
The image below shows another way to express this beautiful scent. There is like 6 layers of lighter to darker pink tones with soap flowers on the top. Very nicely done!
This soap pictured below shows me a very feminine version for this floral scent. I think this is amazing with it’s whiteness, a little pink, the embedded dried rose bud and the embedded label. Awesome!
Fragrance vs Essential oil:
A 5 ml bottle will cost approximately $60 (5 ml is 1 teaspoon). 100 mls (or 3 oz) is approx. $825.00. Whereas the synthetic fragrance oil will cost $5.00 for 100 ml/3 oz. Huge difference! So again, is some soapmaker is saying their rose soap is all natural? If it isn’t rose geranium essential oil, then they are lying. And if they don’t know the different, they shouldn’t be making soap.
Problem is, a lot of customers don’t know the difference between a fragrance and an essential oil, and unethical sellers will count on that to make a sale. Luckily, if you really like the scent of real rose, you can purchase a diluted version at a soap supply company. Some essential oils are stronger than others. For instance, I had a 5% sandalwood that was very weak, yet I also had a 5% rose that was strong.
